The two maps illustrate the transformation of a small fishing village and its surrounding area into a major European tourist resort between 1974 and 2004.

Overall, the region experienced a complete shift from a rural landscape to an urbanised tourism hub. While the original fishing village remained, most of the surrounding land was replaced by tourist infrastructure and housing.

In 1974, the fishing village was located on the southern coast, beside a narrow cape. A small harbour lay to the west of the tip of this cape, with several boats anchored offshore. Inland, woodland occupied the northwest, olive groves stretched across the central area, and grazing land lay in the northeast. Two small inland villages were situated to the northwest and northeast, with no visible infrastructure connecting them to the maritime community.

By 2004, the population had increased from 12,000 to 80,000, with facilities built to accommodate 50,000 tourists. High-rise hotels lined the coast to the east and west of the original village, and beaches were added on both sides of the cape. New housing for locals was developed just north of the original village. The western woodland was cleared for a golf course, and central the olive groves were converted into farmland supplying the hotels, while the grazing area in the northeast disappeared entirely. Roads were built to link inland areas, the northeastern village expanded, and the northwestern village was turned into a tourist shopping zone.
